Welcoming March 2022 with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

Welcoming March 2022 with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

March 7, 2022

Julie Ann Racino, National Democratic Party, USA

House Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi, twice historic woman Speaker of the House of Representatives (the lower chamber of parliament), seeks to maintain the Democratic Majority in the November 2022 election. We share excerpts today from her Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee letter seeking support from DCCC donors post US President Biden State of the Union Address for his first term:

Dear DCCC Supporter:

In such a short time, we've accomplished so much and improved so many lives.

With your support, our House Democratic Majority first jump-started the COVID-devastated economy by passing the CARES Act and American Rescue Plan, which not only made our economy more robust, but also made it more just.

And then in November we made history by passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill--historic legislation which will help rebuild our country's roads, bridges, railroads, internet connections, and bolster our supply chain.  As President Biden said after our House majority delivered him a major victory: "Generations from now, people will look back and know this is when America won the economic competition of the 21st Century."

But we didn't stop there. Your House Majority, without a single Republican vote, passed Build Back Better--legislation that can be a transformative investment in battling climate change and improving health care, early childhood education, and elder care.

If that was the only reason I am writing you, we could just celebrate and call it a day. But it's not--and we can't. We still have so much more to do.

Because all we have done and all we can do is in dire jeopardy. Here's why: None of our priorities stand a chance if Republicans take control of the House in November. Not one stitch of progress will be possible if Donald Trump's puppet, Kevin McCarthy, becomes speaker and if Marjorie Taylor Greene* and the QAnon caucus set the agenda.

That is exactly what will happen if Republicans win the Majority next November. And that is why I am writing to ask you to make a special contribution today to the organization whose sole job is to make sure it doesn't: the Democratic congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). To prevent us from losing our House Majority, please consider rushing as generous a contribution as you can today.

And if you act by February 15th, your contribution will be matched 3-to-1, up to a total of $250,000...quadrupling its impact.

If we lose our House Majority to the Republicans,I know our agenda will stop in its tracks. I know this isn't a hypothetical situation. It's happened before. I was there.

In 2009 and 2010, I was privileged to serve as Speaker and help enact the bold agenda of President Barack Obama. In his first two years in office, we passed a massive economic stimulus, and the Affordable Care Act. We were delivering the hope and change that Americans voted for and believed in. But in the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans took control of the House.

And it all came to a halt. Our work for the people was thwarted the day a 63-seat swing in Republican favor gave them the majority.

-2-

We cannot let history repeat itself. The stakes are even higher now. If Republicans take power this year, they'll do so not just as a gang of obstructionists opposed to everything our Democratic President does--they'll do so as authoritarians waging war on democracy itself.

Most House Republicans voted to overturn the 2020 election and abandon their oath to democracy. Most still parrot Trump's Big Lie. And if they control the House in 2024, I have no doubt they'll try to place their patron and cult leader, Trump, back into the White House no matter the election's actual outcome. Thanks

So, we cannot let what happened in 2010 happen again---because the consequences will be even worse. And make no mistake; we face a tough battle.

The GOP needs to flip just five seats to win the House. Historical trends for midterm elections put them in a position to win several times that amount. In fact, they could win the five seats just be gerrymandering alone.  They are already spending millions to attack Democrats and show no signs of slowing down. In fact, after Republicans' win in Virginia**, Republicans announced they're targeting 70 seats in November.

But if I'm sure of anything, it is that we have the power to make history.

The DCCC is fighting with everything we've got. We have the backs of 26 vulnerable Democrats--including several defending their seats in districts Donald Trump won in 2020--through our battle-tested Frontline program. they knew they had to vote with the American people not against them. Now we must help make sure they come back to Congress to keep fighting.

And the DCCC has targeted 21 vulnerable Republicans, many in districts that voted for president Biden. Every bit as much as we can offer House Democrats support, we need to show these House Republicans accountability.

We've made history. Now, by fighting to keep the House, we are determined to defy history. And at every step along this journey, I'm counting on you. Your support today is an investment i a vision of a more democratic, progressive, and just America. And remember, if you respond by February 15th, your contribution will be quadrupled, up to a total of $250.000.

We still have so much left to do, but our ability to keep our House Democrats in power is now at-risk. Let's meet this challenge together before it's too late.

Sincerely,

Nancy Pelosi

Speaker of the House

P.S. Had the Republicans not won the House in 2010, just two years into President Obama's term, America might be in a very different place today. Let's keep House Republican from taking away our Majority again in 2022. Thank you.

  1. We could suggest that Nancy Pelosi after her lifetime legislative career decide to toss her hat in the ring for US President as the first woman ever in the USA!
